. senior administration officials believe and they tell us that this book shows president obama as someone who likes to ask a lot of questions, they say someone who is decisive, and takes a broad view of history, national security and his role, that's from senior administration officials. the book, though, does portray a national security team that is deeply torn over the war in afghanistan. again, white house officials say that the book also shows the president who pushed to get the afghan strategy right. that's from white house officials. jon: some of the early reporting indicates that this book quotes the president in great detail. the white house gave bob woodward all kinds of access. why? >> reporter: and they always do, don't therbgs administration officials, and past presidents? this is his 16th book, the first 15 were best sellers, i mean, he's arguably the most famous journalist in the country. so the idea from an administration's point of view is to talk to bob woodward and try to manage the message, if you will, instead of having unnamed sores do that for the administration. jon

100 people safely out of the region's quickly rising waters. firefighters had to use ladders to reach some folks stranded on top of their homes. at least two people are reported dead in all of this. this storm also created a series of tornadoes in the dallas-fort worth area, reports of eight tornadoes swirling, some right through central dallas, moving over buildings, one tornado hit a shopping center, scattering debris all over the place. jenna: imagine seeing this giant dark cloud coming towards you, a helicopter tv crew caught this on camera. watch for the flashes of light by that tower on your screen there. that's the funnel cloud that is slamming into power lines. just imagine that. there were power outages, no reports of any serious injuries. that's a good thing, but quite a scary situation. >>> also check this out, also in dallas, several funnel clouds forming after the heavy rains moved out. you can see the tornadoes moving across the sky there as the sun is trying to break out through some of those dark clouds. >>> well, where are folks feeling the rest of this storm now? met

nine firefighters. alicia acuna is live with the story. setet scene for us, where are you in relation to where the fire is burning right now? >> reporter: hi jenna. right now i'm standing near the national incident command center, where the news conferences are being held and where we're getting constant updates. in relation to the fire i'm about 4-5 miles from the fire. it's just over that ridge beyond me here. and that's where firefighters are battling that blaze that has so far charred 7100 acres, and again, during this news conference we're expected to get an update on the amount of acreage that burned. firefighters were fighting this blaze overnight. this has become a 24-hour operation, thanks in part to federal money that is pouring in, in addition to money coming in from the state of colorado, when the colorado governor declared a state of emergency here. governor bill richardson of new mexico has sent $5 million here as well. 7-10 states are now sending resources into this fire specifically in boulder county because it is considered the number one priority in the country, when

late. wendell goler, live at the white house, with more on this. wendell, what can you tell us about the latest economic proposal? >> jenna, it's a tax break that would let businesses write off the entire cost of new capital investments, that's land, pw-g and machineries, through the end of next year. now, the idea is to get businesses to make some of these big ticket purchases that may have -- they may have been putting off and that may mean more business for manufacturers, for construction workers, and give a boost to real estate values as well. it's one of several proposals the president is laying out this week in a couple of campaign-style appearances. yesterday it was milwaukee, tomorrow, it's ohio. the proposals amount to a scaled down version of the second stimulus package, though only republicans are calling it that. yesterday, it was a $50 billion plan to rebuild roads, railways, and airports. tomorrow, $100 billion extension of the research and development tax credit. all of this aimed at stimulating job growth after a summer of recovery. what the white house hoped would be

the use of these full body scanners. in an interview with usa today she said we need to move to the next stage of screenings. there continues to be a threat stream about taking down a commercial airliner in part because it was used successfully before and could have a huge impact. just to give you context here. if there is a piece of advice i've had over the years it's like terrorism is like water it takes the path of least resistance and we are dealing with a thinking enemy. they understand the type of improvements we've made for the screening process, that's why we saw the evolution in the type of attack with the attempted bombing on christmas day, with the underwear -- with the bomb concealed in the underwear. that is an evolution in the tactic and it's also an indicator that when it comes to airline security al-qaida and others are watching what we are doing, they are trying to take steps to circumvent that security which is why the secretary of homeland security is advocating these full body scanners not only in the united states but also our partners, especially overseas. the
